joker review

I can only describe this movie as a beautifully directed cinematic genius. The movie cruelly, and almost poetically reminds us all that in the worst circumstances, we are all Joaquin Phoenix’s depiction of Arthur Fleck. Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix, almost perniciously identify and illustrate the issues with contemporary North American mores.

Hitting every point cinematically, the camera and lighting never fails to to capture Arthur’s anguish, and madness brought upon by a crippled socio-economic structure. Joker is thought provoking, compelling, psychotic, origin story of DC’s most recognizable comic book villain. Joaquin Phoenix’s interpretation of the “Joker” exhumes Heath Ledger’s performance of the “Joker” in the Dark Knight Rises. Joaquin’s Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck is remarkably relatable and shows the audience the face of madness, through sorrow, sympathy, and empathy.

The movie by some critics has been labelled as pernicious, and to a degree I agree. Todd Phillips’ “Joker” identifies very bluntly, relevant socio-political issues concerning an entire class relegated to neglect to a class adorned and celebrated. Todd Phillips visually shows the audience, a very real outcomes to large socio-economic and socio-political issues, unaddressed.

Definitely give this movie a view, if you crave dark compelling realism, strong story telling, cinematic narrative, drama, crime, and psychological thrill, and grit.

A solid 9/10
